An intensive 8 week portfolio-course providing the latest in-demand industry skills and support to help you design, develop and launch an immersive experience.

The XR Project Accelerator offers a structured learning experience to build on foundational Unity 3D skills, while emphasizing the process of creating a strong AR or VR portfolio project. Classes are delivered in small groups by industry professionals whose goal is to supporting your career development for the XR industry.

The course culminates in Demo Day, where students will share their capstone project with a Curriculum Advisory Board. Students and alumni also have access to instructor office hours to provide ongoing technical support towards your project goals.

Course Overview

Live Online Sessions

3Hours of
Lessons/week

Each week you will receive live and online project-based labs based on core advanced XR concepts. The labs will be broken into 4 core themes covering VR and AR development, and will be taught using pre-made projects.

During each lab, instructors will give you project challenges and exercises for you to work through on your own during class, wrapping up class time with having built your own version of the project. In addition, instructors will provide optional extension material to be completed outside of class to challenge students to push the boundaries of their understanding of concepts on the projects.

The sessions taught in labs aim to teach you the best skill-set needed to support, develop, and polish your capstone projects.

Live 1:1 Sessions

week

Each week includes three hours of 1:1 mentorship where you will connect with a qualified expert and get hands-on building your personal projects. All independent student projects will be hosted on the Circuit Stream Platform, allowing students to easily share and receive feedback from their instructors as they go through their 1:1's.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with C#
  • Previous experience developing Unity applications
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  • Unity Version 2019 or greater (Free Download)
  • A laptop or computer (Mac or PC)
  • No headset required

LAB 1 Interaction Design

In Lab 1, you will dive into the fundamentals of design for spatial user interfaces, balancing UI, events, ambience, emotional dynamics and narratives with real-time user interaction, to create engaging and satisfying experiences.

Topics include:  UX framework for XR, Human Factors and Human-Computer Interaction, Graphics & Environmental and Sound Effect, 360 Videos, Equirectangular Projection and Cubemaps

In Lab 2, you will learn practical techniques to develop complex and engaging AR experience based on the camera, accelerometers, GPS and other sensors to determine the location of the user on the go and all surrounding objects. 

Topics include: Introduction to AR Development Tools, AR and Computer Vision, Location Based AR Development, Complex AR Interactions, Engineering and Architecture Data Visualization in AR.

In Lab 3, you will learn in-depth how to develop important aspects of VR to allow users to interact with a VR world. We will explore the challenges to develop VR systems that are effective and comfortable, using input devices, virtual reality SDKs and APIs, 3D interaction techniques, and physics simulation.

Topics include: Introduction to VR Development Tools, VR Hardware and Physical Structures, 3D Tracking and Input Devices, Complex Physics Interactions in VR, Gestural Interaction, Advanced 3D Interactive Environments, Locomotion and Teleportation

In Lab 4, you will learn how to use specialized techniques and profiling tools to critically assess the trade-offs made to optimize the performance of your app based on the idiosyncrasies of the platform you are targeting.

Topics include: Performance Best Practices, Profiler and Frame Debugger, Diagnosing Performance Problems, Optimizing Unity UI, Managing Scenes, Persisting Data and Objects, Cross-Platform Settings, Per-Platform Settings

Jason has worked in the VR/AR industry since 2012 and worked with big data since 2016. He has built and managed over 25 applications and delivered projects for VR, AR, iOS, Android, custom hardware, web, and film. He has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Digital Media.

Cash Garman has over 14 years of experience in the games and web industry as a programmer. He has taught game and web programming/design at the University of Lincoln and the University of Sussex in the UK over a span of 4 years. He has specializations in VR/AR, procedural generation, artificial intelligence, data visualization, and data-driven systems.

Shape your project into a polished and fully developed professional application.

FROM CONCEPT TO SCALE

You’ll start with an idea of a project, or a prototype of a project. As you navigate through the course, you will accumulate skills of in-depth concepts like design, optimization, and user-inputs, which you will be able to apply to shape your project into a polished and professional application.

As you wrap up the course material, your project will be scaled and optimized, you will have an optimized, professional AR/VR application hosted on the Circuit Stream Platform ready to be shared to the world.

The 10-week XR Development with Unity Course is an introduction to Unity and building a AR/VR prototype. The XR Project Accelerator picks up where that course leaves off, teaching you how to take a project and shape it into a polished, professional application. The XR Project Accelerator covers more in-depth concepts like design, optimization, and user-inputs that are crucial to making a professional application.

Yes. If you don’t have an existing project you’re working on you can build a AR/VR application with the guidance of our instructors.

Absolutely! The goal of the XR project accelerator is for us to teach you how to take your concept from prototype to a polished, optimized application. The first thing we’ll do is talk to you about your current project and scope out how we can help you.
