Curriculum

This 40-hour on-demand course will prepare you to enter the UX for XR Design world with solid fundamentals. Created by XR pioneer and professional designer Aleatha Singleton, you will be guaranteed to get the best introduction to XR design.

    UX Best Practices for XR

    In this unit, you will learn to understand the XR spectrum, and specific human-centered design principles for XR and avoid common pitfalls.

    Design Research

    Now that you are familiar with the basics, you will learn how to use inspiration and analyze and convert 2D into 3D thinking and apply basic information architecture for XR.

    Early Design Ideation

    In this unit you will learn how to break out of 2D and sketch interaction flows for VR while identifying assets and needs for the final UX designs.

  4. 4
    Rapid Prototyping and Testing

    In this unit, you will get familiar with the modern XR design tools and use them to prototype solutions for XR while performing and conducting basic usability UX tests.

Miro is the online collaborative whiteboard platform that enables distributed teams to work effectively together, from brainstorming with digital sticky notes to planning and managing agile workflows.

What to Expect

Course Project

While you are working through each unit, you will be applying the skills and knowledge that you're learning to your course project, a VR version of a travel planning and booking application.

Office Hours

Weekly office hours are open to all students, Monday through Friday. This time is best used to get help with course content.

Industry Recognized Certification

After completing this course you will receive a certification badge. This badge acknowledges that earners have gained the practical knowledge and in researching, applying and using tools for XR design solutions. This includes understanding the basics of UX XR design, researching and recognizing best practices, converting 2D into 3D experiences and rapid prototyping with specific XR design tools.

Prerequisites

This is a beginner friendly course and no previous experience is required.

Hardware & Software

PC or Mac with minimum: 3 GHz (2 cores/4 threads), 8 GB RAM, 8 Mb/s network bandwidth

Brainstorming applications (download Miro or FigJam)

ShapesXR account and ShapesXR VR Prototyping application (download here)

Pen & Paper, Basic crafts items or Sketching app for storyboarding and bodystorming

VR headset is recommended if you want to get the most out of the course, but not mandatory
