HoloLens 2 Foundations

A 1-week live online bootcamp that will introduce the workflow to set-up, configure, sign, deploy and run your application directly on the HoloLens 2, and then how to ship it to the Microsoft Store. 

Lessons will also be applicable to deploying MRTK to Magic Leap.

You will receive five one hour session over a period of one week that cover the foundations of setting up an environment capable of building and deploying an app powered by MRTK to the Microsoft HoloLens 2. The skills learned throughout this bootcamp will serve as the perfect starting point for launching an idea and distributing your HoloLens application in the Microsoft Store.

This course includes a total of one session of 1:1 mentorship where you will connect with a qualified expert and get hands-on with your projects.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  • HoloLens 2 or Magic Leap One

1 Developer Environment and MRTK Setup

Learning Outcomes:

- Creating a Unity project powered by MRTK

- Properly building a UWP application from the project, debugging it and deploying to device

Learning Outcomes:

- Using hand tracking to directly manipulate and hand rays to interact with an MRTK button and UI menu

- Assigning voice keywords that are recognized by the HoloLens to activate an MRTK button

- Understanding the difference between GGV and other input methods and knowing when GGV is most appropriate

- Using your hands to interact with MRTK UI within Unity

Learning Outcomes:

- Understanding how the Spatial Mesh corresponds to SLAM data and scene awareness

- Use MRTK's Spatial Mesh Observer to visualize and collide against the device's awareness of the physical world

- Hook up your MRTK button to cause the Spatial Mesh visualization to animate

In the final section of the course, you will learn how to upload a complete and working UWP app to the store for distribution by configuring asset and device target settings. We'll also share tips and tricks for your application to pass acceptance and appear on the store!

Jerry Medeiros is a game development and AI expert with more than 10 years of experience using his skills to create games and XR training and simulations. As a Unity Certified Instructor, he is passionate about teaching the latest emerging technologies. He has an undergraduate degree in Game Development, a graduate in Interaction Design and a Master’s degree in Computer Science.

Cash Garman has over 14 years of experience in the games and web industry as a programmer. He has taught game and web programming/design at the University of Lincoln and the University of Sussex in the UK over a span of 4 years. He has specializations in VR/AR, procedural generation, artificial intelligence, data visualization, and data-driven systems.
