What You'll Learn
Gain a deep understanding of Unreal Engine and its features, setting the foundation for game design.
Ideate and structure your own 3rd person platformer game, developing its theme, plot, and core mechanics.
Learn how to write a comprehensive Game Design Document that outlines your game’s mechanics, characters, setting, and interface elements.
Navigate Unreal Engine’s editor and understand how to create and prototype 3D games using assets, actors, and terrain tools.
Use Unreal Engine’s Blueprints to prototype and implement game mechanics without needing to write code, using visual scripting for game logic.
Design and set up a game environment with lighting, textures, and sound. Conduct playtesting sessions to refine gameplay based on user feedback.
Build a basic UI for game menus and integrate sound effects and music into your game.
Learn how to conduct playtesting, collect data, and iterate on your game design to enhance the player experience.
Final Project
For your final project, you will create a 3rd person platformer game where players can win by either eliminating enemies or reaching the finish line. You’ll design the game world, set up mechanics for both success and failure, and implement your game using Unreal Engine and Blueprints. The project encourages creativity, allowing for additional complexity like boss enemies, high scores, and more advanced game mechanics.
Target Audience
This course is ideal for students interested in video game development and design. No prior experience with Unreal Engine or game design is required, though an interest in gaming will enhance the experience.
